Kevin is a 17 year old boy with severe factor VIII deficiency. Kevin will be attending his first year of college in June 2010. He is able to read and write English, which is also his favorite subject at school. Kevin enjoys playing badminton and reading books in his spare time. He would like to earn his degree in Information Technology someday. Kevin had six bleeding episodes last year. He visited the clinic one time and received one infusion. Kevin has problems with his right knee and his left arm. Kevin lives with his mother, Vilma, who earns about $44 a month as a beautician. Kevin’s father passed away due to a heart attack. Kevin has four siblings: Gio, age twelve; Cyril, age eight; sister Quennie Mae, age six; and John Kirby, age three. Gio and John Kirby also have hemophilia. Two other brothers passed away due to bleeds. Vilma also sells goods to help support her family, which shares a small urban home with relatives.
